The work
Colon hydrotherapists may also be known as colonic irrigationists. Colon
hydrotherapy is a treatment designed to cleanse the colon of waste products
and toxins.
This can be done to alleviate certain medical conditions as well as to improve
general health and well being.
At the start of a session, the therapist will begin by taking details from the client about their medical history, lifestyle, diet, and any symptoms or areas of concern. They will then discuss thge an appropriate treatment programme with the client.
The main part of the treatment involves inserting a tube filled with filtered water warmed to body temperature into the client's body. The tube is repeatedly flushed with water to cleanse the colon and flush out any waste products. This process may be accompanied by massaging the abdomen and other pressure points.
When the treatment has finished, hydrotherapists dispose of fluids in accordance to set procedures, and prepare the room and sterilise equipment before the next treatment.
Colon hydrotherapists may make suggestions for further health improvements regarding diet and lifestyle. Therapists may need to refer people to doctors or other health professionals when necessary.
Hours and Environment
There are usually no set working hours as most colon hydrotherapists have to
be flexible to meet the needs of their clients. Sessions will take around 90
minutes, including a consultation and time for the client to change before
and after the treatment. The treatment itself will last approximately 45 minutes.
Therapists usually work in private consulting rooms with access to specialist equipment.

Extracts From Our Colonic Training Manual
Abdominal Examination
"
Palpation - By using deep massage taking care not to pull the skin, start at
the lleo-caecal valve and finishing to the left of the bladder just above the
left pubic bone."
"
The abdomen is roughly divided into four quadrants: right upper, right lower,
left upper and left lower. By thinking in anatomic terms, you will remind yourself
of what resides in a particular quadrant and therefore what might be identifiable
during both normal and pathologic states."
"The Digestive system is designed to allow the intake of food substances, break them down, use the required substances accordingly throughout the body and finally eliminate waste and what is not required.
Food is essential to life and for sustaining life. It contains the nutrients for building new cells and repairing damaged cells. Every system of the body benefits from the Digestive system and what it provides, as it is the source of energy which drives chemical reactions in all cells.
The Digestive system consists of a Gastrointestinal (GI) Tract or Alimentary Canal (Alimentum = nourishment), which extends from mouth to anus. There are also adjoining accessory structures to help the breakdown of food. These consist of: the teeth, tongue, salivary glands, liver, gall bladder and pancreas. Apart from the teeth and tongue, the remaining accessory structures never come into direct contact with the food. They produce and store the secretions involved with the chemical breakdown of food." colon irrigation hydrotherapy certificate info.
